Expert Insight: Q&A with FreakHaus's Creative Director

We sat down with the Creative Director of FreakHaus, Eden, (aka the genius behind some of the boldest weddings we've ever seen)
to talk about statement styling, breaking traditions, and what it's like working with couples who aren’t afraid to colour outside the lines.

Q: How would you describe the signature FreakHaus style?
A: Bold, unapologetic, and totally unique. We live for the big ideas and the wild details that turn a regular event into an experience. Whether it's crowned statues, dipped orchids, or jelly cakes instead of traditional tiers, we want every element to feel intentional, unexpected, and a little bit fabulous.
We’re not here to replicate… we’re here to inspire!!

Q: What’s the first thing you look for when starting a new event concept?
A: The vibe. Before we look at any Pinterest boards, we ask our couples how they want to feel. Is it playful? Romantic? Moody? Electric? That gives us the real juice to start building a concept that feels authentic. We’re big believers that your dog, your dream Gucci dress, or that gallery wall you’ve loved for years can be the real inspiration behind your day.

Q: You work with a lot of blank canvas venues. What’s the secret to styling them?
A: Own the space and fill it with intention. A blank canvas can feel overwhelming, but it’s actually the biggest gift. We love layering textures; think velvet drapes, sculptural florals, ambient lighting, and building layouts that break all the rules. Want a fashion runway ceremony? Let's do it. Lounge-style seating with stacked produce and shell decor? Yes, please.

Q: What’s your approach to blending tradition with modern styling?
A: We love a cultural or traditional nod, but always with a twist. It’s about honoring your roots while creating something that still feels current and you.  Maybe that’s a red-drenched marquee with velvet napkins or a tea ceremony followed by a neon rave. We’ve done Nonna-approved Italian feasts followed by Coachella-style dance floors. Balance is everything.

Q: Let’s talk themes—how do you keep things fresh and avoid the cookie-cutter look?
A: We ditch trends and focus on storytelling. Fashion, art, architecture, even club culture can inspire a vibe. We’ve built weddings around Jean Paul Gaultier’s collections, coastal fruit markets, and kitsch couture with a jelly dessert instead of a cake. The key is trusting your team, going all in, and saying yes to the weird ideas. That’s where the magic lives.

Q: What advice do you have for couples who feel overwhelmed by opinions (hi, MIL)?
A: Be brave. This day is about you two. Not everyone will get your vision, and that’s fine. You’re not designing for your great-aunt’s approval. You’re building a moment that reflects your story. So whether it’s minimal, maximal, or a floral explosion; own it, and don’t water it down.

Q: One last thing—what’s a trend you’d love to see more of in 2025?
A: More micro weddings with major energy. We love seeing couples skip the huge guest lists and go all in on styling, food, and moments that matter. Big budget, small crowd, huge vibes. Yes, yes, and YES.
